How Long Does Windshield Replacement Take? Texas Guide

A standard windshield replacement at Texan Glass takes 60 to 90 minutes from the time you drop off to the time the installation is complete. Most customers are back on the road the same morning.

What Happens During the Replacement

Replacing a windshield involves removing the existing glass, cleaning the pinch weld (the frame opening where the glass seats), applying new urethane adhesive, and setting the replacement glass into position. The adhesive then needs time to cure before the seal is structurally sound.

The 60 to 90 minute timeframe covers removal, installation, and initial setup. The adhesive continues curing after the vehicle leaves our shop, which is why drive-away time matters.

Drive-Away Time — When Is It Safe to Drive?

Modern urethane adhesives reach safe drive-away strength within one hour under normal conditions. In Texas heat, cure time is often shorter. In most cases, we clear vehicles for drive-away within one hour of completed installation.

Safe drive-away time is not the same as full cure time. Full adhesive cure takes up to 24 hours. We recommend avoiding car washes, high-pressure water directly at the seal, and highway speeds above 70 mph for the first few hours after replacement. The seal is structurally sound for normal driving well before full cure, but the extra caution protects the new installation.

ADAS Calibration and What It Adds

Vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) — including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision alert — have cameras and sensors mounted to or near the windshield. On these vehicles, replacing the windshield requires recalibrating the camera system after installation.

Calibration adds time to the service. Static calibration, which uses a target board in a controlled environment, typically adds 45 to 90 minutes. Dynamic calibration, which requires driving the vehicle at specific speeds on a marked roadway, adds 30 to 60 minutes of drive time after installation is complete.

We check your vehicle’s ADAS requirements before beginning the replacement. If your vehicle requires calibration, we tell you upfront so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

Mobile Replacement Timing

Mobile windshield replacement at your home or workplace follows the same 60 to 90 minute service time. The main variable with mobile service is traffic and travel time for our technician. We provide an arrival window when you schedule and confirm when the technician is on the way.
